I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but couldnt' find anything with search.

Are there some rules that dictate when you can salvage wrappings, staff heads etc. from gold items or is it randomly decided? I understand it has to be a mod that already is on the item to be salvaged. Problem is, i wanted to salvage +5 energy mod, but it just turned into 9 wooden planks...
This happened to me 4 times now, is this normal random sillyness or am i doing something wrong?

As far as I know it is completely random.

I am pretty sure there is a set percentage that dictates whether or not you will get a rune/upgrade, or get lumber.

OK - glad someone asked this.

I do think that salvaging has been 'nerfed', in a manner of speaking. I would probably run a good 80-90% salvage rate on any item, but ever since the Dec 15 update, I have lost about 80-90% of all salvages.

+5 Insightful, 10/10 Sundering, +5 Armor, and some others. I had a streak of 9 bad salvages in a row (5 gold, 1 purple, 3 blue) and then I got a +4 Armor BowGrip and I am on a 6-streak of bad salvages again.

I have been playing since Release day and NEVER had this kind of salvaging problem. I never had 3 bad in a row or even 2 in a row. I would have a bad salvage about once every 8, 9, or 10 times - at worst. The fear is in me now.

Yeah, i feel your pain tlr1293..
Every time i get a so so weapon with a good max mod on it i start doubting if i should salvage it. Ah well, it's just a game after all, not in it to make money!

Just would be nice to get some good mods to make awesome weapons
